Cessna 400
A Look into the Future of Cessna with the Cessna 400
Over the years, Cessna Aircraft Company has managed to remain on top of the general aviation aircraft manufacturing industry by producing aircraft that were not only of high quality and safety standards, but were also relevant to the time they were created. One such creation is the Cessna 400 Corvalis TT, which was first introduced to the market in 2004. There are certainly special features and meanings behind the creation of this particular model, and it is one of those that Cessna continues to make good earnings from.
The Cessna 400 model is the fastest fixed gear single engine piston aircraft available to date. Originally, it was sold as just the Cessna 400, however in January 2009 it was giving the name Corvalis TT for a very specific reason. The TT stands for twin turbocharged, which is just what the Cessna 400 has been able to boast. However, the Corvalis part of the name is not as obvious. It is actually a derivation of the town Corvallis, Oregon, which is just west of Bend, Oregon where the first Cessna 400 was built. Therefore, the name has more sentiment to it than many people would expect.
The Cessna 400 is built with a twin turbocharged Continental engine that pushes 310 hp. That is an impressive figure for an aircraft built with a turbo engine. It is also fixed gear and was built from composite materials, including E-glass and carbon fiber. This of course makes it light relative to other aircraft in its category.
When empty, the Cessna 400 carries a weight of approximately 2500 pounds. The maximum speed is 235 knots, which in itself is also quite impressive. The cruise speed is actually the same at 235 knots and this model reaches a service ceiling of 25,000 feet.
The Corvalis TT went into production from 2004 and today it is still being produced. Anyone interested in purchasing one can expect to pay about $635,000 US, which is the figure that was quoted for a 2009 model. This three passenger plane is 25'2" long and 9 feet high. It is just a little smaller than the Cessna 310, but provides more power with a 310 hp engine that it is built with. This model was originally derived from the Columbia 400, manufactured by Columbia Aircraft Company. This company was since purchased by Cessna Aircraft Company, hence the model being changed to a Cessna 400.
The Cessna 400 aircraft gives aviators and aircraft enthusiasts a good look into what the future of Cessna will look like. We can only expect aircraft models to be produced with greater power, higher service ceilings and an overall more comfortable ride compared to the former models. Judging by the quality that Cessna Aircraft Company has been able to produce over the last 8 decades, one can look forward to newer models coming equipped with features beyond our wildest imagination.
