Cessna 206 - the Best Seller in the 200 Series

Cessna Aircraft Company has successfully been able to produce models of aircraft that have transcended generations and still continue to fight today. That is mainly because the models they have created or designed were designed with timeless features that throughout the years would be helpful and useful in any application. This is exactly why this company has been able to remain on top in terms of aircraft manufacturing for the general aviation industry. Of particular prowess is its line of single engine aircraft, which were created from as early as 1957.

Part of the Cessna family includes a smaller family of aircraft. The Cessna 205, Cessna 206, and Cessna 207 were all manufactured and considered to be a family of aircraft. These were the first in the 200 series of planes manufactured by Cessna, and are commonly referred to as the Super Skywagon, Skywagon, Stationair and the Super Skylane. Of course, as with any modes of transportation, there would be one that outsold all the others. In the case of these aircraft, the one that had the highest sales to date is the Cessna 206.

Overall, the family of the 200 series Cessna’s produced 8509 in total. Of that figure, the Cessna 206 aircraft sold 6581 between 1964 and 2004. That is just under 80% of the total production of the 200 series family. This model has certainly been able to stand out from its family members, which is a clear indication that it was one of the favorites of consumers.

The Cessna 206 is mainly used in the commercial air service. However, it is also popularly used for aerial photography, skydiving and other recreational activities. It is a five passenger plane with a very spacious cargo area and enough leg room for the comfort of each of the passengers. It is 28'3" long and 9'7" high. These specifications are pretty standard as it relates to single engine aircraft manufactured by Cessna.

When empty, the Cessna 206 carries a weight of 2146 pounds. This fixed landing gear model has a maximum speed of 151 knots and a cruise speed of 142 knots. It is also capable of reaching a ceiling of 15,700 feet, and is able to push 300 hp, which is a pretty impressive statistic in terms of the performance of aircraft. Although this model is noticeable heavier than previous models, its performance was not hindered by the weight. The 206 has been able to stand its own in a market of much lighter aircraft.

Today, the Cessna 206 is available for purchase used. Although you may not be able to purchase it from Cessna Aircraft Company itself, there are individual owners as well as smaller companies that still carry the model in pristine condition with high performance standards. Whether for commercial application or for recreational activities, the Cessna 206 promises to be a reliable aircraft that will suit your performance needs and satisfy every other need you might have.
