Learning More about the Cessna 152 Sparrowhawk

For those of you who are even remotely familiar with Cessna aircraft, you will recognize that several models of this brand of air transportation have been created over the years. From two-seaters to six-seaters, there is a wide range of Cessna aircraft still available today, both used and new. One such model is the Cessna 152, which has been referred to as the modernization of the Cessna 150. The first one was delivered in 1977, and several variants of this model continued to be made well into the 1980s.

In fact, by 1985 7,580 variants of the Cessna 152 aircraft had been built. That is a whopping record for such a short space of time, as there were few models of any aircraft that had been able to sell that number. This all metal airframe aircraft was built with a Lycoming engine which allowed the 152 to have more engine power over the 150. The performance of 152 spoke for itself by the mere fact that the engine installed in it had so much power. People were readily impressed with its performance compared to previous models.

Dual controls were installed in almost all the Cessna 152 aircraft, which was a particularly delightful feature to many aviators. The 152 was designed as a fixed tricycle landing gear model, and there were hundreds of modifications available for it. One of the most popular modifications was the Sparrowhawk power package, which came in models referred to as the Cessna 152 Sparrowhawk. The power package being referred to allowed the horse power to increase from 110 HP in a regular 152 to 125 HP. For those people who were interested in a powerful plane, this is one of them that they favored.

Although models of the Cessna 152 aircraft were being designed as recently as 1985, they were still made as one pilot and one passenger aircraft. The Cessna 152 catered more to a smaller flying crowd as opposed to other models which were designed later on. When empty, this 24'1" long aircraft weighs approximately 1081 pounds. That is fairly light according to aircraft standards. This of course, was something exciting to owners. What was also exciting was that it had a service ceiling of 14,700 feet and a cruise speed of 123 mph. At the time, this was one of those planes that people were proud of owning.

The Cessna 152 specifications made it obvious to people that this was a model that focused on performance and not just appearance. It impressed many people as the modernization of the Cessna 150, as it came with much more power and higher performance standards than its predecessor. The Cessna 152 is available today if people wanted to buy them used from current owners. Owning one of these means owning a piece of history, especially if it is still able to perform at the high standards it was known for in the past.
